Ingredients

4 slices of thick bread (preferably brioche or challah)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (whole or almond)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)

Fresh fruits (like bananas, strawberries, or blueberries) for topping

Maple syrup for serving

Powdered sugar for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side. Ensure each piece is well coated but not overly soggy.

Heat the Skillet: In a large non-stick skillet or griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.

Caramelize the Sugar: Sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly across the skillet. Allow the sugar to melt and start bubbling, swirling gently as it begins to caramelize (about 2-3 minutes). Be careful not to burn it.

Cook the French Toast: Carefully place the soaked bread slices into the skillet on top of the caramel. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and caramelized, then carefully flip and add the remaining tablespoon of butter if needed. Cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.

Serve: Once both sides are golden and caramelized, remove the French toast from the skillet. Serve warm with your choice of fresh fruits, a drizzle of maple syrup, and a dusting of powdered sugar on top.

Enjoy: Dig in while the French toast is warm, savoring the delightful mix of flavors and textures!
