Ingredients

500g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup plain yogurt

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 tablespoons garam masala

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon ground coriander

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon paprika

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece ginger, grated

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes

200ml heavy cream

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Cooked basmati rice or naan bread, to serve

Instructions

In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, half of the garlic, and ginger. Add the chicken pieces, coating them well. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until golden and soft, about 5-7 minutes.

Stir in the remaining garlic and ginger, and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Add the marinated chicken to the pan, including any leftover marinade. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the chicken starts to brown.

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring well, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for about 15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Reduce the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to combine all the flavors.

Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving. Serve hot with cooked basmati rice or warm naan bread.
