Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into quarters

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup crushed pineapple, drained

1/2 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened or sweetened, based on preference)

1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Assemble the Rolls: Place the quartered Sweet Hawaiian rolls in the greased baking dish. Spread the crushed pineapple evenly over the rolls, then sprinkle the shredded coconut and chopped macadamia nuts on top.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined.

Combine and Soak: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the rolls, ensuring all pieces are saturated. Gently press down on the rolls to help them absorb the liquid. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to soak.

Bake the Dish: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Allow the French toast bake to cool for 5-10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top. Enjoy your tropical breakfast!
